Get a $39 PDF to Excel Converter For Free

Looks like we have our server problems sorted so I'm being bold and posting
this item. Nothing like over confidence :) Our Hot Finds Editor says
"Programs to convert PDF files to text or document format are pretty common.
However, PDF To Excel Converter is the first program I've encountered which
claims to be able to convert PDF files to Microsoft Excel format. In my
tests, the results varied significantly. If you need to convert a PDF file
which contains tabular data, then the converter does a reasonable job."
Thankfully tabular data is the most common spreadsheet format so this could
be a quite useful addition to your toolkit.

Free Utility Provides a Great Improvement on the Windows File Dialog

This interesting freebie addresses an everyday problem. You're using your
favorite program to edit a document, picture, web page, audio file, movie, or
whatever. You want to load or save a file so you hit the File menu and then
choose Open, Save, or Save As. And then you're faced with the standard
Windows dialog box, from which to select the name of the file that you want
to open or save. More often than not, you need to search through a few
folders before you find the file you're interested in. What this program does
is provide a powerful search facility that lets you find the file you want
far quicker then navigating up and down the folder tree. It also remembers
previous selections so locating commonly used files is a snap. I tried it and
it really works. It's not for everybody but I think many of you will just
love this. Even more so when I tell you there is a portable version available
so you can try it out without installing anything. - Gizmo

Shock! Horror! A Desktop Wallpaper Gizmo Actually Likes

OK, OK, I admit it; I have very little personal interest in wallpapers. Given
that, you may be a little surprised that I not only liked the wallpaper
selected this week by editor Rhiannon, I actually installed it. Not on my
personal laptop of course - that would be going too far - but rather on my
desktop PC. What do I like about it? First it is in monochrome and that means
it doesn't shout at me with glowing colors. Second it is dark so that means I
can actually see my desktop icons. Third it is broodingly atmospheric which
kind of suits my character. One thing is for sure, if you like wallpapers
showing pictures of cute puppies I absolutely guarantee you will hate this
wallpaper :) - Gizmo

Cloud Storage Startup Offers Better Security and Also Lets You Run Your Own Server

Services such as Dropbox, which sync a folder on your PC with the cloud and
also with your other devices, have one major drawback. Your files get copied
to the internet, and to someone else's server. So they're not as secure as
they might otherwise be. A new player in the cloud storage/backup market aims
to change all that by bringing some additional layers of security. This
service, like Dropbox, gives you 2 GB of storage for free. If you need more,
you'll have to pay. But unlike Dropbox, they encrypt your information before
it gets copied to the remote servers, so (the company claims) there's no way
that anyone but you can gain access to your files. And as a bonus you can run
use the service to run your own server for free.

A Handy Tweaking Tool For Windows

Our Hot Finds Editor says "I normally try to steer clear of system utility
tools such as registry cleaners, generic Windows clean-up suites and so on,
because in my experience they can do more harm than good. But this simple,
free program seems to work rather well, and it's easy to reverse any changes
because you can keep track of the selections you make. It's a 1 MB download,
